A ground section is a plane. You can draw it from a scanned plat, trace the plot boundaries, and every grave sits at a point you can walk to. A mausoleum breaks all three assumptions at once. Fifty niches can occupy the same few square metres of floor plan, stacked six high and split across three levels, so a single map coordinate is no longer enough to identify anything. Draw that as polygons on a site map and you get an unreadable pile of overlapping shapes.
The result, in practice, is that above-ground inventory quietly leaves the system. The graves live in the cemetery software and the crypts live in a spreadsheet, and the two drift apart until nobody can answer a question as simple as how many niches are still available in the north wall. Each floor supports a grid of up to 100 rows by 100 columns, which covers 10,000 positions on a single face. Most columbarium walls and mausoleum crypt faces are far smaller than that, so the practical limit is how you want to divide the structure into faces, not the software.
No. Every cell keeps its grid position for layout purposes but can carry its own label, such as A-1, N-114, or Tier 3 Left. This matters for older structures where the historical numbering does not run in a clean sequence, because you can reproduce the numbering that is physically engraved on the building instead of renumbering it to suit the software.
